Route
Day 1: Zotter – Riegersburg
Immerse yourself in the world of chocolate! On the exciting tasting tour through the chocolate shop theatre, you will experience live how chocolate is made. You can look through the glass architecture into the production area and at the same time try out how the cocoa bean is transformed into chocolate at the tasting stations. Riegersburg Castle sits proudly and mightily on the 482 metre high volcanic rock overlooking the East Styrian hills. In all the centuries of its existence, Riegersburg Castle has never been conquered. Nowadays, the climb up to the castle is much easier, but always an experience.
Day 2: Oil mill – Lipizzaner horses
The Herbersdorf oil mill is one of the smallest and oldest mills in Styria. The employees ensure the excellent quality of the Styrian pumpkin seed oil by drying, grinding, kneading and roasting. In addition to the award-winning Styrian pumpkin seed oil, you will also find the Schilcherland specialities and products from the Genussregionen in the sales room. The Lipizzaner stud farm in Piber has the task of breeding the oldest cultivated horse breed in Europe – the Lipizzaner – whose origins date back to imperial times in 1580. The heart of Lipizzaner breeding in Piber are the broodmares: they ensure the offspring and receive special attention here. Today, around 40 foals are born in Western Styria every year – and not with their famous white coats, but black, grey or brown. Only in the next four to ten years do they acquire the typical white colour for which the Lipizzaners are known, loved and famous.
