Route
Day 1: Walhalla – Regensburg
Just 10 kilometres from the gates of the beautiful city of Regensburg, the Bavarian King Ludwig I artistically realised his dream with the Walhalla. He had a hall of fame and honour built by one of the most important architects of classicism, Leo von Klenze. The building site on the Bräuberg on the banks of the Danube was very well chosen. Even from a distance, the mighty classicist building impresses onlookers.
Day 2: Weltenburg – Danube gorge – Altmühltal – Riedenburg
Weltenburg Abbey is located directly on a bend in the Danube not far from Kelheim. The monastery is embedded in one of the most beautiful river landscapes in Germany. An important Roman border and military road began near Weltenburg as early as 45 AD. Marvel at the world’s largest group of rock crystals weighing around 8 tonnes in the crystal museum in Riedenburg.
Day 3: Thurn&Taxis-St.Emmeram
The castle of the princely Thurn and Taxis family in Regensburg was built on the site of a former Benedictine monastery dating back to the 8th century. It is one of the largest private palaces in the whole of Europe. St Emmeram’s Palace is still the residence of the Thurn & Taxis family today.
